WOYWW???

Hello my lovely Ladies, it's time to see what all the wonderful artist are doing around the world, stop by our Desker, Hostess Extraordinaire,  Miss Julia Dunnit blog, grab a cuppa and enjoy.

 I've been experimenting again, making a gelli plate, boy I have seen some incredible pages artist have been creating, and making backgrounds is my thing :O), my claws have been itching to play with one. It was very easy to make, Miss Patty (Magpie's Nest) an amazing mixed media artist, photographer, and a very sweet Magpie, made her own and shared a link for a how to.
Ingredients, 11/2 cups of alcohol, 11/2 cups boiling water, 1/2 cups of glycerin, 7 packets of gelatin (6 tbs) ...
I emptied the packets into my pan added the alcohol , stirred it, it went into little balls, when I added the hot water it all dissolved, then added the glycerin, stir it well, I thought I had but it turned out like my Mothers jello rubbery on the bottom:), but that okay, I'm going to make another one but square. I slide a knife around the edge, then carefully lifted it out of the pan, then left it in the fridge over night..

I got my paints out, mine are about 10 yrs old, I store them upside down, the paint is way to thick so the examples below didn't spread around to well, I used the back of  1/2 x 1/2, now they are kind of double sided and a few on the front side, these are just a few,  I did a couple on tissue when there was just  a little bit of paint left on the gelli  sorry no pics, thought this bunch was enough, once you start playing with it, it's hard to stop.I'm going to try and add some water to my acrylic paint and see if that helps the colors to blend better, then I can use my stencils, to create some design on them.

    I would love to be able to say I clearly understood what the heck was happening in this wonderful post, Dianne, that you so kindly photographed and detailed, but honestly, it's all Greek to me!!     I've wanted to have a go at this for ages! Thanks so much for posting and the pictures are great.Just as soon as I have a bit of time I'm trying this, although my family will probably think I'm preparing something to eat!!! Better make it clear I'm not! I've been away from WOYWW for various reasons, but I do love to visit my special friends. You have been so busy! It's always lovely to take a little peek in your nest and maybe one day we will see each other's nests for real! Wouldn't that be nice? Julie Ann xxx

    Bravo on making your own! I have a Gelli Plate and WOW it is such fun, I never imagined it would suit me, me who never dabbles with colour, always pale and muted but it is such fun. You will have hours and hours of fun and all the moreso for creating your own plate.

    Fascinating! Your acrylic paints will let down with water and behave very well - so I forecast you'll be up to your elbows in colour and paper very soon! Good for you too - th emaking of the gelli is as creative as the painty results!

    Hi Dianne!!! I've missed popping by your blog, and by the looks of this post, I've sure missed a lot! I've heard of gelli plates but didn't know you could make your own. HOW INTRIGUING! Thanks for taking the pictures along the way. Now I just have to decide if I want to walk through that doorway : )

    What a great post, and thanks also for posting the recipe. I've got one somewhere and it would be interesting to compare them. I've got some of the ingredients to make a gelli plate but haven't got round to it yet. Love the results you are getting! This look so much fun.

    Thanks for your visit and your nice comment. So glad you enjoyed my desk this week. The mess has largely gone now as I had a blitz, and I've had some time this weekend to be creative in there too, which makes me feel so good!!

    I haven't tried using coffee filters, because I don't have any, as I use a cafetiere. I am having a lot of fun with the teababs and have tried colouring them with distress inks today. I'll be blogging soon - in the process of making some videos atm.

    along with your lovely prints...
    I see more gelli monoprints in your future ;)
    btw I have had really good luck with the cheapo bottles of paint that sometimes go on sale for not much $ at all...
    I see your recipe calls for alcohol and glycerin = interesting!...
    that is new to me...mine was just gelatin and water...probably means you won't need to boil it? altho doing that helps you get a fresh new surface again...
